Dónall Dána (Horrid Henry)

0

Fans of the Horrid Henry series by Francesca Simon – of which we know there are many – will be glad to hear that five of the books from the series have recently been translated into Irish. Here, Aonghus Ó hAlmhain finds out if any of the charm has been lost in translation …

Horrid HenryTá cáil ar an gcarachtar Horrid Henry a chruthaigh Francesca Simon. Buachaill beag a chothaíonn mioscais is achrann pé áit a théann sé. Ainspioraid ainriail.

Tá meitheal bhreá aistritheoirí tugtha le chéile ag Cló Iar Chonnacht, agus tá Gaeilge bhreá créúil curtha ar eachtraí is achrann Dónall Dána curtha ar fáil. Beidh léitheoirí idir óg is sean lag ag gáirí faoi na bobanna a bhuaileann sé.

A dheartháirín Learaí gan-locht is mó a bhíonn thíos lena mhioscais. Ach is minic bob buailte ar féin ag a chéile comhraic Peigí Pusach. Tá friotal iontach ar fáil sa leabhar – srón a phiocfá faochain leis ag Róisín Raicleach an múinteoir rince. Agus nach mbeadh sceon ort roimh Bláthnaid Snáthaid, an t-altra allta? Ní bheadh barúil na ngrást agat cén casadh a bheadh sna heachtraí spleodracha greannmhara seo.

Agus gan amhras na focail is léaráidí Tony Ross ag freagairt go hiontach dá chéile.

Fainic gan craos a dhéanamh sa léamh nó beidh ort fios a chuir ar an Dochtúir Drochúlla de bharr tú bheith lag ag gáire!

Tréaslaím a saothar Máirín Ní Ghadhra, Gormfhlaith Ní Thuairisg, Caitlín Ní Chualáin agus Marion Ní Shúilleabháin.

Agus le Cló Iar Chonnacht a bhailigh meitheal chomh cumasach. Shamhlóinn gur mó racht gáire a chraith iad agus na hainmneacha á roghnú agus an chaint á mhúnlú.

The anarchic adventures of Horrid Henry have been successfully transposed into lively Irish by a quartet of masterful native speakers, who have picked wonderful names and phrases. The words match Tony Ross’s illustrations perfectly but are idiomatic and rich. These books will have young and old laughing at Dónall Dána’s madcap adventures and his comeuppance at the hands of Peigí Pusach. Cló Iar Chonnacht have made an excellent start!
